Dobell Drawing Prize

January 18, 2021

I am pleased to announce that my drawing ‘Brookes Street’ is a finalist in the Dobell Drawing Prize.

The Dobell Drawing Prize is the leading drawing exhibition in Australia and an unparalleled celebration of drawing innovation. Presented in partnership with the Sir William Dobell Art Foundation (SWDAF), the biennial prize explores the enduring importance of drawing within contemporary art practice.

The $30,000 acquisitive prize will be awarded at the opening of the finalists’ exhibition at NAS Gallery on 25 March 2021

The drawing refers to a memory of a street in Point Lonsdale where this psychotic dog would do everything in its power to take a chunk of flesh from passerby’s. With as much speed as possible, on our bikes, we would lift our legs up and hoped it wouldn’t get a hold of us as it came running out of the property. Or is there deeper subconscious meaning to this drawing? The darkness and terror of the black dog of depression. At the time of the memory, the fear that I could never escape the beast….

The drawing is 76x76cm acrylic, oil paint, wax pencil and oil pencil, packing paper on canvas.
